~How to make good rice~

This is how we make good rice.....you know....... the real kind. Not instant rice:)

  • I put a little bit of oil in the bottom of a nonstick pot and toss in a half a diced onion.

  • Next about 2 1/2 cups of dry, uncooked rice,

  • a tbs or two of vegeta seasoning,

  • about a tbs of parsley flakes and

  • some garlic powder,

  • salt and pepper.

  • Then I proceed to fry the rice a little stirring every now and then on medium heat.

  • When the rice turns a golden colour I add water according to the directions on the package and cook until almost totally tender.

  • I mix it well and and leave it off the stove to finish cooking in it's own steam.

  • Fluff it up and serve.

This make a pot of flavourful, non sticky rice!! Enjoy! In Hungary, rice is often prepared this way but I read on a blog that Mexicans prepare their rice in a very similar fashion!

Second way~Quick and easy and good (and most commonly used method around here:)

  • cook rice on low heat in LOTS of water until tender~keep checking..it's important not to over or under cook.

  • once cooked drain off water then refill with hot water for a rinse, drain off in a big colander/sieve. I usually tip the colander to get more water out.

  • fry some onions in a bit of oil, add seasonings of your choice. Mix into rice and serve. Or skip the onions and just add melted butter and seasonings!!
