~Waffles and home made apple sauce~

Well breakfast is sitting on the table and I'm waiting on my saturday mornin' watchin' kiddos to come upstairs to devour it all!:)

Homemade Waffles

Ingredients:

  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cup oil
  • 2 1/2 cups milk OR 2 cups milk and 1/2 cup butter milk! YUM!
  • 3 cups flour ( whole wheat works too. I mix mine to get a semi healthy yet tasty effect)
  • 2 tbs brown sugar
  • 5 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbs cinnamon

Make sure you preheat your waffle maker while you mix your ingredients. A whisk works best. You all probably know you only need one large mixing bowl. Just mix your wet ingredients first then add the dry ingredients and carefully mix them on top them mix the whole thing up! Easy peasy! Your batter should look like this.

Then drop the waffle batter on a 1/3 cup per waffle for regular sized waffles. I don't grease my waffle iron. In fact I never wash it! I think this prolongs the nonstick surface!

While your waffles are cooking peel, deseed and cut up a bunch of apples. Doesn't matter the amount. Use whatever amount your family will consume. Place in a pot and add some water (just a bit). Bring to a boil then cover and reduce the heat to a simmer. Simmer until the apples test very tender with a fork.

Then you can mash them up! A potato masher works well for this. No need to drain the liquid unless you added too much water. I guess it depends how runny or thick you like your applesauce. You're done! I don't sweeten the applesauce. the children like syrup on top of the waffles anyways so that'll make it sweet enough.
Scoop some applesauce on top of your freshly made waffles and sprinkle lightly with cinnamon. Enjoy!
YUM!!
