Coconut cake squares (kokuszos szelet)

This is a delicious cake like square covered with chocolate and shredded coconut. A family favourite.

I learned this recipe from my mom. This cake is often made over the holidays or for special occasions. Over the years I have changed this recipe a little so that it is easier to make. It is also simple to make this a dairy free treat by using plant based milk and dairy free chocolate chips.

Coconut cake squares (Hungarian kokuszos szelet)

Ingredients:
~1 egg
~1 3/4 cups milk (plant based milk for dairy free)
~1/2 cup oil
~1/4 cup sugar
~1/3 cup honey
~3 cups flour
~1 tbs baking powder

for dipping:
~2 cups chocolate chips ( or dairy free chocolate chips)
~1 cup milk (or plant based milk/cream)
~shredded, unsweetened coconut

Method:
Mix up the batter in your favourite mixing bowl starting with the eggs(beat the eggs) and slowly adding and mixing in the rest of the ingredients.

Bake in a greased 9x13 pan for about 25 minutes in a 350F oven.
When your cake is completely cooled off slice into little squares and dip into the chocolate sauce.

chocolate sauce:
In a saucepan melt the chocolate chips with the milk stirring constantly until well blended. Each square you dip into the chocolate sauce you also need to dip into the coconut. Make sure all sides are covered.

Arrange nicely on a tray and refrigerate. Once your coconut cake squares are cold you can serve them!!
A BNM,
Enjoy!
